What is VarsityPrep: Why a Collegiate Level Coaches

Greetings Prep fans,

We are so glad to have you reading our blog. We have been grinding real hard for XL8UH, finding out exactly what our local customers want from our service. VarsityPrep is a service design for you, the families and athletes who are looking for that edge above the competition. Once we figure out what you guys want, we are going to go all out to bring a great coaching product to you.

But we want to get back to who we are...

You may have heard of VarsityPrep. you might not have.

We are a service dedicated to matching college student's with young athletes who want more than just another practice. Our student athletes are passionate about athletic improvement, development, and injury prevention. Our college student coaches are going to help your athlete in a way you never thought about, until now.

So Who Are VarsityPrep's Coaches?

VarsityPrep is made up of college students's, as well as former and current college athletes. These students have extensive experience playing and coaching their favorite sport, and want to pass down their knowledge and love of the game to the next generation of athletes. We show the resume of each and every coach on their profile so you know who you are hiring before you ever meet them. Each coach has a story, and you can learn about each of our coaches playing experience, and choose who is right for you. If you ever have any questions or need help choosing a coach, call (206) 972-3040 and we will personally help you choose the coach that is right for you.

Think about the advantages of a college student coach. A college student coach can...
  • Connect on a deeper relationship with younger athletes.
  • Provide a positive role model figure that can help guide your athlete on their athletic journey
  • Educate you and your family about athletic competition, trying out for a varsity team, and preparing for the next level both on and off the field
  • Are more affordable and flexible compared to professional coaches! (Professional one on one sports coaching costs $60+ on average, while our coaches can give you quality sports training for just $40 a session!
More to be continued.....

Speed Up Those Batting Hands

Whats up baseball players! Ever been late on a fastball? Then you need faster hands, and work on putting the bat on the ball. I got a drill that  you can do at home with your family or teammate. All you need are:

  • A bat
  • A couple baseballs
  • A partner to feed you balls
Plant your feet, and move your hands back to generate some momentum for your swing. Focus your eyes on the ball, and try to make line drive contact with every single ball. start off with 3, and push yourself to as high as 10 balls in a row. Focus on these three parts of the swing:
  1. Snap your bat to promote power in your swing
  2. Keep your hands close to your body, and keep them inside of the baseball.
  3. Keep your head down and do not pull out. Aim to hit the ball straight up the middle, or even opposite field.

Jump Cut

Purpose: To improve your ability to run at full speed, read a whole in the defense, and react to it while staying at top speed.

Set up: set up each cone a couple feet apart, in a staggered formation following the direction you want to practice.

Tips:
1) Start slow and walk through the drill at first
2) As you progress, increase your speed, while maintaining full control.
3) Keep your knees and shoulders pointed upfield

Coach Travis: The Pitching Motion

Hey everyone, Coach Travis here. For all you young guys just starting to pitch off a mound to live hitters, remember, pitching is an art. Youre not just throwing off a mound; as a pitcher, you need to dedicate yourself to crafting a repeatable motion, that allows you to consistently hit your spots, change speeds, and fool batters. It doesn't matter how big you are, if you work on your technique, you can be the guy that the coach looks to go to in the big games. Check the video out, comment on what you like and didn't like, and go out there and work on the art of pitching!

VarsitPrep: Baseball Fielding Basics

The infield is the place for athletes with the best hands. You need to do four things to play in the infield

1. Be able to field the ball cleanly
2. Be able to transfer the ball from your glove to your throwing hand
3. Get in a ready to throw position as quickly as possible
4. Make a strong, accurate throw.

Coach Dave is going to go through the short hop drip to help you do those things. (Make sure you watch all the way till the end!)

Ladder Exercises

Howzit everyone,

Coach Travis here. Just a quick question. Do you wish you could be more explosive on the field? Do you think you have slow feet, and you just cant seem to shake your defender? Do you feel like you have slow jumps on groundballs and pop flies? Well don't worry, I wasn't the fastest kid on my team when I was a little kid either. Matter of fact, I was chubby, overweight, and had two left feet. But after a summer session of speed and agility workouts in Aiea, I realized the importance of athleticism in becoming a better baseball player. Check out the video to start you or your child off on the right track to being faster on the field.

The three drills feature here are the

  • Two In
  • Two In (Lateral)
  • Bunny Hop
I highly recommend that you perform these drills at least twice a week, going down and back 3 times for each exercise. If you are just starting these, you will see a ton of improvement just after a couple weeks. If you are a more advanced player, stay tuned for more Strength and Agility videos from VarsityPrep!

Getting Started in Baseball: The Stance

We are pleased to announce our very first VarsityPrep Lesson Video. Today's lesson is with Coach Dave, who will be instructing YOU on how to take the right stance when you're establishing yourself in the batters box.

Hitting is by far the hardest thing to do in sports. There are so many parts that are essential to getting a strong swing. If you don't have a consistent stance that you feel comfortable and confident with, then you'll find yourself struggling to find a rhythm against good pitching

To recap the video pay close attention to:

  • Feet placement
  • Athletic stance
  • Where you hold your hands
  • Bat angle

Thanks for watching. If you like what you see in the video, visit GetVarsityPrep.com to sign up for your lesson with Coach Dave today!
